Downloading an ebook or audiobook to iPad and/or iPhone

Start up your iPad or iPhone and go to brimfieldlibrary.org.  Click on the download books icon on the left column.  This brings you to OverDrive’s website.  Scroll down and click on OverDrive Media Console download link on the bottom left column.  Click the circle in front of the iPhone/iPad and click on the App Store icon.  Click on the Overdrive App.  A description of OverDrive Media Console for iPhone is displayed at the “iTunes Preview” website.

Your web browser may ask if you want to allow this website to open iTunes.

If prompted, choose to allow the website to open iTunes, otherwise, click the “View in iTunes” button on the iTunes Preview page.

iTunes opens and displays the OverDrive Media Console page in the App Store.

Click the “Free App” button.  You will be prompted to sign-in to the iTunes Store.

Enter your Apple ID and Password and click the “Get” button.

iTunes downloads OverDrive Media Console software for iPhone (this is for both iPad and iPhone).  When the download is complete the application is displayed in the “Apps” section of iTunes.

Connect your iPad or iPhone to your computer.  iTunes syncs your device and installs OverDrive Media Console for iPhone. 

OverDrive Media Console is now installed.

You will also need to register your iPad with Adobe Digital Editions (you will be prompted to do this before checkout).  If you forget your Adobe Digital Editions sign-in, it is usually your email address.

Disconnect your iPad or iPhone from your computer.

Once you have downloaded the App, open it up on your iPad or iPhone and touch the Get Books icon at the top of the screen.  You will need to create a library link to alliance.lib.overdrive.com (at this point you are leaving the App and going out to the web). This brings you directly to OverDrive’s website.  On the top bar click on the My Account button and select Brimfield Public Library from the dropdown and enter your library card number and pin.  Now you can begin the steps to search for and download a book.  It may be helpful for you to take the “Guided Tour” tutorial (click on Guided Tour button) which is an overview of how to search for and download books. 

Once you have registered your iPad or iPhone with Adobe Digital Editions you will be flipped back again to the OverDrive App where you should see the book you downloaded.  Now you are ready to read…..enjoy!!

Note:  The Overdrive and Adobe software downloads are only done once.  After that you simply click on the OverDrive App and you should automatically be taken to the OverDrive website to search for and download your titles.
